June 03, 2004Since 2003, PhotoThera, a medical device company located in Carlsbad, CA awards a yearly scholarship of $1000.00 to help a student that is planning on going to college, and is in need of financial assistance. This year, PhotoThera chose a high school that has its own School of Science and Technology, hoping to spark a volume of interest from eligible participants. PhotoThera also chose San Diego High School, because of its involvement with the Advancement Via Individual Determination program (AVID). AVID is an in-school academic support program that prepares students for college eligibility and success. The winner was selected by submitting a one page essay on how he/she may contribute to the World of Science and Technology in the future, and why he/she thinks their contribution would be an important one? All submitted essays were ranked by the PhotoThera team. PhotoThera recently awarded Smith Mengheang, with the $1000.00 scholarship award. This student’s essay on contributions to the World of Science and technology, and why the contribution would be an important one, was full of insight and ideas to improving technology and helping to develop a cure for Diabetes. Smith Mengheang will be awarded on senior awards night at San Diego High School, on June 3, 2004. In the future, we hope that the PhotoThera Science & Technology Scholarship award will grow and help to make a difference in the lives of future technological and biological career seekers. |
