Richard W. Mott, Chairman of the Board Principal, Walkabout Consulting
Mr. Mott is currently a principal in Walkabout Consulting LLC, a management consulting and private equity firm. Mr. Mott most recently served as President and Chief Executive Officer and Director of Kyphon Inc., a NASDAQ-listed global medical device company focused on minimally invasive spinal therapies, through its acquisition by Medtronic, Inc in late 2007. Prior to Kyphon, Mr. Mott held several executive positions at Wilson Greatbatch Technologies, Inc., most recently as Chief Operating Officer, as well as executive operating roles within the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. Mr. Mott is the previous recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the Frost & Sullivan Technology Leadership of the Year Award. Mr. Mott holds a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University and is a Graduate of Harvard University's Advanced Management Program.
James J. Bochnowski General Partner, Delphi Ventures
Mr. Bochnowski founded Delphi Ventures in 1988. His focus is on medical devices and biotechnology. Mr. Bochnowski began investing in medical companies in 1981 after co-founding Technology Venture Investors, a private venture capital partnership. Since 1984, he has focused exclusively on healthcare investments. From 1976 to 1980, Mr. Bochnowski was with Shugart Associates, a venture-backed disk drive company. As President and CEO, he led Shugart to increasing profitability, with annual revenues growing from $13 million to $200 million. Shugart was acquired by Xerox in 1979.
Trained as an aerospace engineer, Mr. Bochnowski served as an Army officer and a missile systems engineer with the U.S. Army Missile Intelligence Directorate, serves on the Board of Overseers of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and is a member of the Harvard School of Public Health's Health Policy and Management Executive Council. Mr. Bochnowski currently serves on the Boards of Directors of ArKal Medical, Inc., Ascent Healthcare Solutions, Inc., CollaGenex Pharmaecuticals, Inc. (CGPI), ImmuLogic Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (IMUL), Natus Medical, Inc. (BABY), Synaptics, Inc. (SYNA) and SynergEyes, Inc. He holds an M.B.A. with Distinction from Harvard University Graduate School of Business and a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Kerry Dance Ph.D. Managing Director, Hamilton BioVentures
Dr. Dance has 25 years of executive experience, both as a scientist and a leader, and has focused on life sciences since the beginning the formation of Hamilton in 1998. Dr. Dance came to San Diego in 1978 and became President of General Atomics Corporation. While at General Atomics he founded an in-house venture enterprise (one of the first in San Diego) which produced a successful track record and spun off several successful enterprises, including the San Diego Super Computer Center. Dr. Kerry Dance currently is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Angstrom Pharmaceuticals and observes on the Board of Ceregene. Dr. Dance attended Stanford University where he received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a Nuclear Option and Math Minor and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Engineering Science.
Stephen Dilly, M.D., Ph.D, President and CEO, PhotoThera, Inc.
Dr Stephen Dilly joined PhotoThera as CEO in January 2012. Before PhotoThera, Stephen served as CEO of APT Pharmaceuticals from 2006 through 2011. Previously, Stephen was the Senior Vice President of Development and Chief Medical Officer for Chiron BioPharma from 2003 to 2006 and Vice President of Medical Affairs and Development Sciences for Genentech from 1998 to 2003 and Vice President of Clinical Neuroscience for SmithKline Beecham from 1996 to 1998. During his 25 years in the life sciences industry Stephen has been closely associated with the successful development and launch of a wide array of important drugs and biologics, including: Requip, TNKas, TNKase, Xolair, Avastin, Raptiva, Tarceva, Lucentis, Rituxan, Cubicin, Paxil CR and Kytril. In addition, he has been responsible for development programs in many CNS indications including Parkinson’s, Alzheimers, epilepsy, migraine, neuropathic pain, stroke, depression and psychosis. Stephen earned his M.D. from the University of London in 1982 and his PhD from University of London in 1988.
